Manzanilta by OneSevenNine 2007

Manzanilta_by_OneSevenNine, originally uploaded by marinvee.

It's a wonder seeing old work and the progression of a style. It is especially interesting when it is yourself you are observing...

This picture was apart of a series of paintings I did with Germbots, Skulls and hotdogs. It was a mixture of Catholic iconography, playfulness, animal folklore... Ideas which I feel in present work are more refined. I was really feeling this method of well ink pen and gouache, which as you know I still use. This is a little ole thing, say 5x7 or 4x6? on watercolor paper. This makes me want to revisit this particular style and period with the new things I have learned.

I am happy to see this.
Have a Happy Holiday!

Art Jam 2010 :: Georgetown

Art Jam 2010, originally uploaded by OneSevenNine.
Here are a few images I captured with the trusty iphone.

The basic set up;
there is a rotating roster of artists who when finished are switched out with another artist.

The finished piece is then walked through the bar to a table in the back where you can take an up close look and purchase.

Everything is under $50; pretty amazing! This is excellent if you are trying to add to your art collection on a limited budget.

I had a blast! There are tons of artsy, fancy and fun people partying!

Here are images of the whole night on Facebook:: ART JAM 5

Neko Demon :: Ukiyo-E, originally uploaded by OneSevenNine.

Illustration time!
So I am leaving to St. Louis today.
Don't worry, I will post pics of awesome things I find on my adventures.

I am taking this opportunity amongst business meetings and such to get some quality drawing and sketching time in. Doing these illustrations are really important to me and I like to zone out.

I do these as commissions as well, so if you have a tattoo idea, an animal you love or just looking for something awesome to give someone, please give me a buzz!

I hope all is well!

Peacock 2007

Peacock 2007, originally uploaded by OneSevenNine.

With all the snow in Seattle, I am feeling tropical.
This is one bird you don't want to stuff inside another, inside another, inside another! She ain't no Turkey!

Anyhoo, if you are an avid (or an occasional) follower of mine you know I hate peacocks with a passion. I was once knocked down and furiously flapped in the face by one when I was little... Stop laughing it's true!
So of course in celebration of my grudge for the attack, I paint them.
What can you do, they are so beautiful... I wonder if they are in fact delicious?

I hope all of your holidays are amazing, cheers!

Punk Rock Flea Market:: Illustration and Design

It's that time again! December 04, 2010 Punk Rock Flea Market will be in effect!
Excited.

We have had a booth at this event for the past year and always have a fun time. For this installation, I was asked to do the poster art and design.

I really look forward to the vintage dresses the vendors have, the unique jewelry and inexpensive gift ideas I find there. Especially since it is the Holiday Season, this will be a must for holiday gifts for everyone. This particular event is already almost sold out, so expect The Underground to be jam packed with all kinds of goodies!

If you are a vendor and want to get down, CONTACT THEM ASAP!

Visit them on Facebook;
Punk Rock Flea Market
And be sure to hit the LIKE button to add them to your groups!

Spread the word and I will see you there!
Thanks!

Sketching::Black and White

I have been sketching and inking for the past weekend, trying to catch up on projects.
I have been sick =( so this is refreshing and good.

Future projects include Monster Show at Upper Playground Halloween Group Show, mural for an Indie movie in the next few weeks and general painting.

The Acute case of Infections Bunnies is for a sketch battle I participate in weekly. Actually, this is my second battle. It's fun.

The Flea is an illustration for the next Punk Rock Flea Market in December. Handsome says it is very Beetlejuice. Cool.

Okay, till next time!

Sketchbook Battles!

I have been really wanting to get back into sketching and blackbooking.

Favorite tools of this trade to have?
-Good, solid mechanical pencil and a clean eraser.
-Microns (08's and Graphic 2's)
-Warm Grey scale marker set (for proper shading)
-Say No-No to colorless blenders... Use a lighter color to blend your colors together.
-A bleeder sheet, I forgot mine and it leaked through to the next page. Oh well...

I had tons of fun doing this. We watched Gorillas in the Mist and ate a delicious Hawaiian inspired dinner tonight. Now I am onto a logo for brother's company Gods of Geometry (GOG), check them out!

Thank you for stopping by!
