It still takes us a bit of coaching to get little egg to eat tofu in our meals but she is coming around. Welcome to adventures in Tofuland at the casa de 179!

Food is energy, it is comfort, it is how we in our household express love and caring to each other. We very much are conscious of the food we put in our bodies and try to be as nutritious and delicious as possible.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog, I have a few fun projects coming up I hope to share and see your sunshine face at! Take a look at the calendar at the bottom of the page for dates, times and fun things to do!

Cheers!

BOXES OF DEATH!, a photo by OneSevenNine on Flickr.

Seattle, WA –From March 3 – April 12, 2012 Back from the dead, Boxes of Death 3D is the 3rd year of this unique exhibition displaying 50 handmade coffins meticulously designed and presented by 50 individual artist’s. This year the event has been resurrected as a 3 stop traveling art exhibit with the opening reception taking place in Seattle on March 3rd where it will travel to Portland, Oregon with its final destination being Los Angeles, California.

DIY Think tank, event space and art gallery The Piranha Shop will host the first installment of the Boxes of Death 3D tour. Boxes of Death is a group show featuring 50 artists using the same coffin canvas format to create their own artistic statement surrounding the preconceived notions and ideas that surround the coffin shape. Death will reside in Seattle through the month of March and will travel south for the second show at Nemo Design in Portland on April 6th. For the third and final show the coffins will traverse the I-5 corridor to the depths of Los Angeles to unleash death at the Holding Co. during the Los Angeles Art Walk on April 12th.

Sadie Hawkins Art Show::Preview and Progress Shots

Sadie Hawkins Art Show by OneSevenNine
Sadie Hawkins Art Show, a photo by OneSevenNine on Flickr.

Yes! Japhy and I have been hard at work for the past few nights working on a little number I like to call Trashy but Classy, ha! We actually settled on the title being "Pop Tart", you know like Pop Art? Get it? We listened to books on tape, the soundtrack to Tron and a collective of Jewish Jokes we checked out at the library.

We are excited and have tributed a few of the details to our dear friend Ana Bender who has just recently passed. We love you Ana and you are tattooed in our hearts. Other hilarious tattoos include a trashy horoscope sign (since the show falls under the sign Aquarius, we thought that appropriate), old sailor themes and some just for giggles.

Please stop by the 'dance' on Friday and see what the other ladies and their dates have come up with. With the passing of my dear sister, I may not be in attendance, but I send my love to all the painters, dates and guests that show.

Love,
Angelina

Photo-shoot: Creative Series 179

This was an amazing project, THANK YOU MIKE HIPPLE!!

We toured Seattle to the recent Queen Anne Mural. The bear head was greatt! It came equipped with has lights inside to illuminate my face and I could hear the wind a-la giant seashell! I felt a little bit like Darth Vader! Ha!

The second location was at Golden Gardens, although beautiful and was so COLD! We did hear seals and that always makes me excited to scan the beach for a glimpse! I really enjoy these photos and wish the best for the Creative Series as it continues in 2012.

Please take a look at the rest of them on his Blog;

& on the 179 Flickr!

Take care!

Selective Salvation Sketch

I used to do these in depth illustrations, not quite stories, but they voiced an opinion in me that I have since forgotten until recently.

Handsome man, although my biggest and most avid supporter often times tells me when I suck and when he knows I haven't given something my all. He is the one that makes me go back over a line or reconsider a color choice or placement. I loathe and respect his opinion even if I don't necessarily agree. Sometimes the artist in me will tell him to trust my decision and show him the completed successful painting. Sometimes the ego in me disregards his opinion later to find out I have wasted 3 hours on something I should have listened to. Handsome has reminded me that these very personal illustrations of mine are important and that I should continue to use them as a way to express my opinions.

2006 illustration

Why really I stopped doing these is a number of reasons but I do miss them. In going back to these I have found my hand out of practice and my wit although unsharpened like a disagreed pencil, still working. I feel with practice and the growth of the New Year, these will flourish and with my wisdom of 2012, grow.

Often times your best critics are the ones you love the most and hardest critiques are from yourself. I personally wouldn't have it any other way. The best support an artist may have is honesty.

2006 Illustration - Full of Grace

I love all my supporters, haters, family members and fans. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, your support makes me really the artist I keep growing to be!
