This was an amazing project, THANK YOU MIKE HIPPLE!!

We toured Seattle to the recent Queen Anne Mural. The bear head was greatt! It came equipped with has lights inside to illuminate my face and I could hear the wind a-la giant seashell! I felt a little bit like Darth Vader! Ha!

The second location was at Golden Gardens, although beautiful and was so COLD! We did hear seals and that always makes me excited to scan the beach for a glimpse! I really enjoy these photos and wish the best for the Creative Series as it continues in 2012.

I used to do these in depth illustrations, not quite stories, but they voiced an opinion in me that I have since forgotten until recently.

Handsome man, although my biggest and most avid supporter often times tells me when I suck and when he knows I haven't given something my all. He is the one that makes me go back over a line or reconsider a color choice or placement. I loathe and respect his opinion even if I don't necessarily agree. Sometimes the artist in me will tell him to trust my decision and show him the completed successful painting. Sometimes the ego in me disregards his opinion later to find out I have wasted 3 hours on something I should have listened to. Handsome has reminded me that these very personal illustrations of mine are important and that I should continue to use them as a way to express my opinions.

Why really I stopped doing these is a number of reasons but I do miss them. In going back to these I have found my hand out of practice and my wit although unsharpened like a disagreed pencil, still working. I feel with practice and the growth of the New Year, these will flourish and with my wisdom of 2012, grow.

Often times your best critics are the ones you love the most and hardest critiques are from yourself. I personally wouldn't have it any other way. The best support an artist may have is honesty.

I love all my supporters, haters, family members and fans. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, your support makes me really the artist I keep growing to be!

Jailbird Rock!

These I did for a friend who was just released from the slammer! He is near and dear and so I decided to do a comic-style short story with these and incorporate his life. The banner ended up reading "A Setback is a Set-up for a Comeback!" Very witty of him. There is a skateboard with hotrod flames flying through a lightning storm. A padlock freeing a laughing jailbird and a calavera. I am proud.

These I used the Molotow High Solid Markers I received from Art Primo. Check the video demo I did for them on their Youtube Channel;

Along with acrylic paint I applied with a paintbrush, I was able to get the details I needed. This was extremely fun and I had a good time doing this. Little egg was really interested in this project so I hope I can get her to make her own custom pair! How cool would that be?

Few and Far Women in Miami 2011

This coming December 1st - 4th the Few and Far ladies hit Miami for the infamous Miami Art Basel. We are going to be doing a large mural production with 13 of the Few and Far women painting at the Primary Flight compound, 554 NW 24th Street, Miami, FL 33127. We have an amazing group of talented and prolific women joining together on this piece, and have our own personal photographer, Erin Ashford , coming along to document, so if you are in the area, be sure to stop by and check it out!!

Yes, this is going to be great, we have been working on sketches and designs so we can get to work as soon as our feet touch the ground. I will also be gallivanting this season's Punk Rock Flea Market on the 10th of December at the Underground also in Belltown. Fish face!

This the newest painting I nerded out to the other night. I sanded the edges and rounded the wood corners. I also weathered the overall look by sanding parts of the background and painting itself. I really like the aesthetic of this technique, we shall see where it takes me!

I have several more pieces of wood this size that I have loose plans for. Currently I am excited about getting my space a little more organized and put together.

This is the finished piece we worked on together. It was the first time I worked in collaboration with Augie. Collaborations of course is something Ego and I love to do and Artoleptic is on of our favorite events.

It's true.
I am having the hardest time focusing on this painting. I am not sure why, but I want to be done with it. Perhaps I should focus on other projects? Or perhaps feeling unsure on this painting is leading me to NOT be able to move to other projects. I have to figure out what my mental block is before I progress. One wonders...

I have been invited to speak at the UW in Bothell again. This was a great honor for me to do this last year and I look forward to scheduling another lecture. I will have to look over the past year's accomplishments and pick which I will highlight.

Known for being an art hub, Georgetown is an excellent place to exercise your creativity. I will be painting with an all-star cast of amazing artists including my favorites Carlos Aguilar and Ksera.

We are looking for volunteers to do light clean up, painting and assisting artists with their sections. We welcome anyone who is willing to hold a paintbrush or have a good time!

I had a job where I had to go out to the Microsoft campus last year.. or was it the year before? That place is a wonderland... I think it was the year before since I was living in the CD and not by the beach.

In any case, it was super fun. There were waffles and coffee and I live painted to live music. And all before 9am in the morning!

Few and Far 2011:: Process

I had so much fun painting with these ladies!
Here are progress shots of the weekend we spent in Oakland prepping and painting this wall. You can see more information on the future Few and Far Blog, TooFlyNYC Blog, and the 179 Flickr.

Hops and I getting down with some characters! I don't really like painting on ladders. These are Hop's caricatures of her and Lady Mags, another amazing woman who painted above her.

Breakfast of champions! It is supposed to be 2011 starting with the rabbit, but I got a little crazy and HAD to add the star and Germbot.

This is a bear-dog. He was great. He watched me paint for a few hours. What a good ole' dog.

Here is my proton of the Paintbrush section of the wall. I painted with 2 other really talented ladies and then went to help on the larger part when I was finished. Again I had to paint on a ladder and 2 stacked milk crates. Yes, I know, I am very short.

We are coming from far to SF and Oakland for the MNT Sponsored Few and Far mural event. This is going to be super fun. I will be painting with some of the most amazing and inspiring ladies of graffiti. This is going to be a really positive and amazing event.

I will be participating on the mural project as one of the brush artists with 2 other ladies. I don't know what I will be painting just yet, but I will be sure to update the Flickr, Facebook and of course The Blog!

This is going to be great!
We are actually painting not at the Crocodile, but The Underground a few blocks away in conjunction with this event.
I really like painting on models... The last time I did this I did feathers around my model's body. I think this time I will be doing something similar but with wispy hair and fox faces.

Here is an image of a little bit of what I was doing at the Femme Fatale last year. This wrapped all around her torso down to her legs. You can see more images in the Artsy Fartsy Shows on the Flickr.

Pretty hype to be painting with Solace and Burn and of course the Artifakt guys.

Here is what the West Seattle Blog had to say about the event coming up tomorrow;

6:30. The kids are in a sugar coma, the politico types are home writing letters to their local op-ed columns, and the seedy underbelly of South Park emerges. That’s right… Artists! They confront the two evils that strike fear in the psyche of every artist: A deadline, and a live audience! Five brave souls will pit their skills against each other and the clock to create works of art that must be completed within 1 Hour. While they are working, they will be in full view of the audience, and the audience gets to bid silently on the works while they are in process. All proceeds from the silent auction will go to support Arts & Cultural experiences for the teens at the South Park Community Center. All bids must be in by 7:30! *As a side note: All five artists will be starting with the same canvas… doors reclaimed from the historical “Witches Hat House” on 7th Ave S.

The pressure is on! Come watch me sweat it out and paint something people are going to want to buy for a very excellent cause!

Cinco De Mayo:: Live Painting Event

I am live painting this Thursday for Cinco de Mayo in South Park! Here is the basic premise of the show;

Five artists will transform doors salvaged from the historic Witch Hat House into works of art. In one hour you’ll see a plain white door change from a cocoon into a freaking beeyootiful butterfly.

And then, you’ll even be able to bid on that butterfly! That’s right. The art will be available to the highest (silent) bidder when the doors are complete. Proceeds from the auction will go to art events and field trips for our South Park Teen Program.

This is going to be so much fun! Here is the line-up;

I did have to switch the painting I originally did for another one I worked on all night Sunday at. it was way too abstract (which might have been a little too easy for NKO...) I just want a little more time with it to perfect whatever epiphany I am coming close to.

On a sad note, my friend of a long time recently passed away. Next to the awesome stickers is are 2 characters I made up called Fat Rat and Joeys. Joeys of course was modeled from my amazing friend. I will be of course drawing him doing fun thing over the next few days =(
I will also be posting the pics of this silly character as I find and/or draw them. Joey was very famous for his Haipus, which were haikus about poop, his to be exact. They were pretty amazing, very poetic.

The adventures of Fat Rat and Joeys are silly. They sit on a corner and eat snackies and tell me to skip work and hang out with them and people watch. The little comic was based on their observations of life as it passed them by.

There will be a benefit for him tonight at A-Pizza Mart. I will be donating an AP package of supplies for a raffle. Please come out and support!

Peekaboo is my twin, we were born on the same day (but winners are always first, so it's technically MY BIRTHDAY); July 6th.

This project I drew a bunch of Germbot bodies on sticker paper and had friends of mine draw in the faces for them. This was a super fun project. I have a number of these stickers left and have decided to post them. I really am hype to get this project going again. I'll post the new ones we come up with.

This is one of my infamous hybrid of ideas; the Germbot Baby Jesus.
This illustration I made into only a handful of paintings. Nothing I still have either which makes me sad. I really need to get into the habit of taking pictures of the paintings I do.

The last one I did was actually Jonah and the Whale. It was a painting of Germbot Jonah coming out a large fish's mouth dancing in the style of Hindu God Ganesh. Very Epic. I think my sister took this painting...

Here is another goodie from the Kraftbook I found. This illustration is inspired by the Olmec heads.

"The most recognized aspect of the Olmec civilization are the enormous helmeted heads. As no known pre-Columbian text explains them, these impressive monuments have been the subject of much speculation. Once theorized to be ballplayers, it is now generally accepted that these heads are portraits of rulers, perhaps dressed as ballplayers. Infused with individuality, no two heads are alike and the helmet-like headdresses are adorned with distinctive elements, suggesting to some personal or group symbols." -Wikipedia Online

I really enjoyed this kraft paper and am super excited I found this book. I think the next couple of days are going to be filled with some intense sketching. Take care!

I'll say all these are Circa 2007ish?
I just uploaded a ton of illustrations and sketches from this period to the Flick so please remember to click the link and check it out.

I remember it being really thoughtful and moody. There are a lot of lists of reminders of things I hoped I would never forget and things I loved and would miss if I did. A lot of ground breaking ideas came from these early drawings and I am proud of the influence it had.

I am also thankful of the people that are listed here like Ego has a sketch in here, Brian from Nomadic Skateboards and Josh from Indecline, Will and Garrett and Elisha and Meli by Girls!

This was all done with an all gray-scale marker set.
My personal favorite.

The theme for this was to do the word FAZED. There are all kinds of things going on here from Good Luck Darumas to capturing the zzzzz's by counting sheep.

I like these exercises since they allow me to go with what I feel and be super silly.

My little friend Alex found this at one of my favorite Seattle grocery stores. It is names and priced at just the right amount. Very funny, THANK YOU ALEX!!

I have been on the grind painting and sharpening my cooking skills for my little family. Tops on my list if the honey, lemon, saffron chicken and potatoes. Pretty win. Handsome man ain't so bad himself, his breakfast the other day was wonderful.

In between cooking and painting I have also been practicing my ukulele. Lofa, if you read this, I am singing you a song when I come and visit so be prepared!

This week, please come to Seattle's Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk. I will have a skateboard at Deli and a canvas at Flatcolor Gallery. Thank you Cris and Max, you two are gems.

I painted this for The Royal on University way and 57nd. I headed over after I dropped my paintings off at Bherd Studios for the show on Friday. This bar is great; it is Mexican themed with great art everywhere and now these phrases in the bathrooms. I have to go back and add a white to really make these "POP" off the wall.

This was also my first time using this product called Smash Ink which is a xylene based paint similar to One Shot. I used the color Gold Digger; very appropriate name! It was excellent, covered well and ate right through the plastic cup I was using... oops...

It's a wonder seeing old work and the progression of a style. It is especially interesting when it is yourself you are observing...

This picture was apart of a series of paintings I did with Germbots, Skulls and hotdogs. It was a mixture of Catholic iconography, playfulness, animal folklore... Ideas which I feel in present work are more refined. I was really feeling this method of well ink pen and gouache, which as you know I still use. This is a little ole thing, say 5x7 or 4x6? on watercolor paper. This makes me want to revisit this particular style and period with the new things I have learned.

I am happy to see this.

Here are a few images I captured with the trusty iphone.

The basic set up;
there is a rotating roster of artists who when finished are switched out with another artist.

The finished piece is then walked through the bar to a table in the back where you can take an up close look and purchase.

Everything is under $50; pretty amazing! This is excellent if you are trying to add to your art collection on a limited budget.

I had a blast! There are tons of artsy, fancy and fun people partying!

I am taking this opportunity amongst business meetings and such to get some quality drawing and sketching time in. Doing these illustrations are really important to me and I like to zone out.

This will be my second time doing this. I had a blast the first.
I will be coming back from the future Saturday morning from my trip to St. Louis (so if you are out there... BEWARE!) and I will be ready to paint!
All paintings will be on sale for 50.00 and under. All works must be complete there. With a rotating roster of artists, you will surely see some amazing things.
Georgetown kicks it hard!

This was super impressive to see etched in wood.
